Oskar was born on May 17, 1978, in Heidelberg, Germany, to Juan and Gloria Hernandez of McAllen, Texas. He attended Copperas Cove schools and volunteered during middle school and high school as an altar server, with his brother, at Holy Family. He enjoyed church gatherings on Sunday with his family and friends. Oskar had a servant’s heart and chose to serve his community by becoming a firefighter. He graduated from Temple Fire Academy and went on to work in Mexia and South Padre Island. After several years as a first responder, Oskar changed careers and worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville, Palestine, and Gatesville. He later decided to follow his passion and spent the last 15 years as a rancher, managing his family’s business.

Above all else, Oskar was always proud of his family, especially his children. He was a devoted father to two beautiful daughters, Alyssa and Zoie. Oskar cherished the time he spent with his parents and brother Juan, who loved him unconditionally. He was married to Kerri Magnuson, and they spent 16 adventurous years together.

He believed in the “old ways” and would do anything to help someone in need. He liked keeping up with his friends, motorcycles, fishing, hunting, training horses, working on the ranch, and boiling crawfish for his family. When he was younger, he also enjoyed bull riding and became a champion bull rider. Oskar was kind and a friend to everyone he met; he will be dearly missed.

Oskar is survived by his wife, Kerri Magnuson; daughters, Alyssa Hernandez (Jordan Key), Zoie Hernandez; parents, Juan and Gloria Hernandez; grandfather, Rafael Hernandez; brother, Juan Hernandez Jr.; one granddaughter, Kamri Michelle Key; nieces, Isabell, Gabrielle, and Elizabeth Hernandez; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a donation to help pay for Alyssa and Zoie’s education. A GoFundMe page was established to collect donations, please click here, https://gofund.me/d78f395a.
