Copperas Cove

David Douglas Leffingwell, 73, of Copperas Cove, passed away on October 22, 2020. A memorial graveside will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.

David was born to Douglas Campbell Leffingwell and Janet Maude Price on December 24, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was raised in Rocky River, Ohio.  He graduated from Rocky River High School in 1964 and went to school at a military academy before joining the United States Army. David was transferred to Fort Hood and lived in Copperas Cove in 1985. He retired a few years later in 1988 with the rank of Master Sergeant. David was awarded numerous awards to include; the Army commendation Medal (w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (w/1 Silver, 1 loop), National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Badge (riffle), Drill Sergeant Identification Badge and the Meritorious Service Medal. Upon retirement, David worked another 10 years on Fort Hood at Raytheon Air and Aeronautics. He married Rosana A. Beringuela on April 4, 2015, in Copperas Cove.

Dave was an avid sports fan; especially to Ohio State University’s football team and the Dallas Cowboys. As much love as he had for these two football teams, nothing could ever mean more to David than his friends and family, whom he treasured dearly.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Janet Leffingwell; and a son, Paul Leffingwell.

David is survived by his wife, Rosana Leffingwell; children, Brian, Nicole, and Kelly; step-children, Marierose Resendiz, Rick Romwell Beringuela; siblings, Sue Leffingwell, Gay Salzer, Sandy Salzer, Jackie Salzer, and Mike Salzer; grandchildren, Ariella, Cameron, Tristin, Amanda, Vincent, Samantha, Kimberly, Brandon, Kevin, and Chris; great-grandchildren, Branson and Avery.
