Laufasa Vaa, age 62, of American Samoa passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 PM, Friday, February 12, 2021, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116 in Copperas Cove with burial following at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be from 11 to 12:30 on the day of the service.
Laufasa was born on December 9, 1958, to the late Va’a Ta’amu and Ta’e Laufasa in Samoa. He went to school in Samoa and graduated from High School in Hawaii. After high school, he joined the United States Army where he served for 12 years. He met Tafa Tausaga in 1999 and they married on May 9, 2001, in Pago Pago. Laufasa worked for Jr ROTC for 20 years in American Samoa. Laufasa was a member of the choir, served as a deacon, and a member of the men’s ministry at the Congregation Christian Church in Pava’ia’I Village of American Samoa. He also served as the High Talking Chief for the Aea Family, a great honor he took very seriously. Laufasa enjoyed working on his plantation in Samoa.
Laufasa was preceded in death by his wife, Tafa Vaa in 2020; and all of his siblings.
Laufasa is survived by his children, Tusitiai ManhiemTausaga, Oilau Lealoa Daphne Vaa, Vasati Audrey Vaa, Asofaamanatuailefuaomanu’atele Laufasa Vaa Jr.; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that he played a huge role in raising.
