F. Monika Pickering

Frieda Monika Pickering, age 83, of Kempner passed away on November 8, 2019. Memorial Services will be held 11 AM, Friday, November 22, 2019, at Scott’s Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Interment will follow at Kempner City Cemetery.

Monika was born on January 12, 1936, in Viernheim-Hessen, Germany to Adam and Elisabeth Klee Hofmann. She attended school in Viernheim-Hessen. Life brought Monika to the United States in 1955. She proudly attained U.S. Citizenship in 1960. She married the love of her life, Robert Earl Pickering, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 20, 1982. The pair absolutely adored each other.  Monika turned a passion for creating using macramé and ceramics into a business, opening and operating M & R Macramé, Etc. for many years. For over 30 years Monika was also a ceramic instructor at the Bob Gilmore Senior Citizen Center and the Lion’s Club Senior Citizen Center in Killeen. Aside from her love of all things macramé and ceramic, she also enjoyed dancing and was an avid fan of polka music. She was the “Queen” of her dance school in Germany and played the accordion. Her favorite personal saying was “I love all my children”, “all my children” meaning much more than her biological children. Monika will be remembered most for her all-inclusive love that she had for everyone.

Monika is preceded by her husband; parents; son, Richard Procasco; daughter, Margie Stoup; sisters, Margot Nickel and Rosalinda Smidt; dog, Tasha.

Monika is survived by her sons, Robert Pickering and wife, Mary, of Houston, TX, Uwe Pickering and wife, Susan, of Carolton, TX Devin Forbes and husband, William Plaster, of Temple, TX; daughters, Catherine “Cat” Truelove of Temple, TX, Donna Sipley and husband, Randy, of Kempner, TX; spiritual daughter, Marsha Hoilien, of Copperas Cove, TX; adopted children, Amber Pickering and husband, Tom Goodman, Michael Laxson, Richard Pickering and wife, Kalynda, and Monika Brackett; sisters, Marita Nobrega and Heidi Fux and husband, Armand; brother, Richard Hofmann and wife Lisa; brother-in-law, Edwin Nickel; grandchildren, Skip Geiter, Nathan Nichols and wife, Alexis, Bobby Morris, Christie Lorta and husband, Victor; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends and her loving canine companion, Benji.
