Eula Nell (Sutherland) Yates

Eula Nell Yates, age 93, of Copperas Cove passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021, in Georgetown. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM,  Friday, December 17, 2021, at Clear Creek Baptist Church in Kempner with burial following at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116, Copperas Cove, TX 76522.

Eula was born on November 29, 1928, to the late Theodore and Stella McMillan Sutherland in Bucu, VA in Dickenson, County. One evening in early 1947, Eula Sutherland, a dark-haired, dark-eyed beauty whistled at Sidney Yates and won his heart. They were married later that year on December 22, 1947. To this union, three children were born. In 1961, the family moved to Copperas Cove. For the next eight years, she lovingly cared for the McDowell family in Copperas Cove. Eula was the manager and buyer for Best Buy, Cove's local shoe store. Eula was a faithful member of Clear Creek Baptist Church for over 45 years where she served as the church secretary and sang in the choir. She had the heart of a caregiver that cared for her mother, her husband, her sister, her children, and grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a very classy and sassy lady, always staying busy helping others, and she loved to bake.

Eula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sid Yates; four brothers; and three sisters, including her twin sister, Trula Mullins. 

Eula is survived by her son, Michael Yates; daughters, Carolyn Osik and husband, Warren, Jessica Perez and husband, Ed Bowen; grandchildren, Heather Rein and husband, Pete, Wendy Osik, Kasey Carlton and husband, Cooper, Sydney Rhea Perez, Garrett Perez and Remington Bowen; one great-grandaughter, Kenlie Carlton; one sister, Patricia "Sissy" Sutherland.
