Chu Cha "Chay" Mcgranahan-Valentine

Chu Cha “Chay” McGranahan-Valentine, age 79 of Killeen, Tx. Passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Viss Family Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Burial will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 pm Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the funeral home.

Chay was born on April 5, 1944, in Korea, to Chun Mae Park and Kyu Hyun Choi. She grew up and attended school in Korea.

Chay was a lover of any and all animals. From stray cats and dogs to deer roaming near the house she would always feed and care for them.

Chay had a very strong work ethic and commitment to family. From the time she came to the States she was working long hours in factories, contract KP jobs on Fort Hood to finally owning her own shop doing alterations and dry cleaning. Even into her 70s she would work 10-12 hours almost every day, come home to cook dinner, then run 3-5 miles a day as she believed it was important to maintain her health.

Her commitment to family extended beyond her own family as she was the strength and confidant for several families to help them through their struggles and give them a shoulder to lean on.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard E. McGranahan; father, Kyu Hyun Choi; son, Ronald McGranahan; and brother, Bu Ho Choi.

Chay is survived by her husband of 39 years, Terry L. Valentine; children, Richard C. McGranahan, Michael P. McGranahan, Charles K. McGranahan, and George C. McGranahan; stepchildren, Daniel Valentine, and Kimberly Spengler; mother, Chun Mae Choi; sisters Mi Sook Winter, Ok Cha Choi; brothers Dae Ho Choi, Chang Ho Choi, and Jin Ho Choi; in addition to fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandson and dozens of nephews and nieces.
