Andrew “Leroy” Quives, age 84, of Copperas Cove passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove with burial following at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
Andrew was the son of the late Warren and Helen (Edwoods) Quives who was born on October 30, 1935, in Whittaker, West Virginia. He was raised and went to school in Ohio. Andrew was drafted into the US Army when he was 18 years old and sent to Vietnam. Andrew served for over 20 years before retiring. After retirement, Andrew made Copperas Cove his home with his wife, Vivian Barbara Cole who he married June 27, 1970, and his daughters. Andrew worked for the Club System on Fort Hood for many years. After leaving the Club System, Andrew worked for Copperas Cove Independent School District as a crossing guard. Due to illness, Andrew decided that full-time retirement was the way to go. Andrew enjoyed fishing and playing bingo. He loved any sport played in Ohio from the Browns to the Buckeyes. He stayed close to his family in Ohio. Everyone received two birthday cards every year, one funny one and one serious one. Andrew was the Patriarch of the family and was loved by everyone that met him.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Powell; step-father, Frank Kenon; daughters, Deborah Quives, Luciana Marie Quives and one granddaughter, Jazeria Vivian Hunt.
Andrew is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vivian Barbara Quives of Copperas Cove; children, Andrew Leroy Quives Jr. of Kokom, IN, Vanessa Serrell Quives of Killeen, Laura Helen Quives of Copperas Cove; and numerous other family members whom he loved. Quives mean strength.
